SULLIVAN BROTHERS IOWA VETERANS MUSEUM & GROUT MUSEUM OF HISTORY & SCIENCE
503 South St, Waterloo, IA 50701
“The Grout Museum District is a set of museums in Waterloo, Iowa. The District consists of the Grout Museum of History & Science, Bluedorn Science Imaginarium, Rensselaer Russell House Museum, Snowden House and the Sullivan Brothers Iowa Veterans Museum.” Wikipedia
I first visited the Grout Museum over 50 years ago on a fifth grade field trip to Waterloo. For some reason the museum left quite an impression on me, so while in this area I wanted to visit it again, and I was not disappointed. There are now two museums in the same building, the Grout Museum and the Sullivan Brothers Iowa Veterans Museum. The Grout Museum chronicles historical features of the Waterloo area and the Sullivan Brothers Museum pays tribute to the many ways Iowans contributed to our country’s efforts in several wars, beginning with the Civil War and continuing through to today’s conflicts. I’m usually not a fan of war museums, but was impressed by how this museum was put together and tied in the Iowa connection.
