TRUMAN HOME NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE

219 N Delaware St, Independence, MO 64050

“The Harry S. Truman National Historic Site preserves the longtime home of Harry S. Truman, the thirty-third president of the United States, as well as other properties associated with him in the Kansas City, Missouri metropolitan area.” - Wikipedia

Not far from the Truman Museum is the house where Harry and Bess lived before and after his presidency.  It is the house that Bess grew up in, and the home she died in.  The home is preserved as it would have been in 1982, when Bess passed away.

The National Park Service offers guided tours of the first floor of the house.  I enjoyed the tour as it gave a glimpse into the common life-style the Truman’s lived while in the house.  The tour guide’s anecdotal stories also gave further insight into the man from Missouri.  Unfortunately, photography was not allowed inside the house, but the Park Ranger escorted me around the house so I could take some pictures of the house from all sides.

It was the perfect way to finish my immersion into the life and presidency of Harry Truman.
