THE HERMITAGE
4580 Rachels Ln, Hermitage, TN 37076
“The Hermitage is a historical museum located in Davidson County, Tennessee, United States, 10 miles east of downtown Nashville. The 1,000-acre + site was owned by Andrew Jackson, the seventh president of the United States, from 1804 until his death at the Hermitage in 1845. It also serves as his final resting place.” - Wikipedia
This was my second visit to Andrew Jackson’s home, but I honestly didn’t remember much from my first visit. I opted to take the VIP tour which gave me much information about Jackson and his home. Another perk of the VIP tour was more time in the home and the opportunity to take photographs, which isn’t allowed on the self-guided tour. Jackson was, and still is, a controversial figure in history, but our tour guide tried to remain impartial as he told Jackson’s story. My only disappointment was that “The Hermitage Enslaved: A Wagon Tour” which takes visitors into the plantation fields where the majority of the enslaved men, women and children worked and lived under the ownership of Andrew Jackson, was not operating on the day I visited.
Fall display at the entrance. Interestingly, another visitor went up and knocked on the pumpkin...it is plastic.

Slave quarters. Jackson's personal attendant was named Alfred. He lived on the right side with his family. Alfred lived on the property long after Jackson's death, and in fact, gave tours of the house at one time.
