TENNESSEE CAPITOL

600 Dr. M.L.K. Jr Blvd, Nashville, TN 37243

“The Tennessee State Capitol, located in Nashville, Tennessee, is the seat of government for the U.S. state of Tennessee. It serves as the home of both houses of the Tennessee General Assembly–the Tennessee House of Representatives and the Tennessee Senate–and also contains the governor's office.” - Wikipedia

The Tennessee Capitol, completed in 1859, remains today as it did then.  To me there wasn’t a lot of flash or gaudiness that some capitols display.  It appeared to me that the building was built for business.  Inside the building there were portraits of past Governors of the state, and busts of the three Tennessee-born U.S. Presidents:  Andrew Jackson, James K. Polk, and Andrew Johnson.  David (Davey) Crocket, who served in the Tennessee legislature also merited a bust.  The self-guided tour brochure was very thorough and had a lot of great information.

On the grounds outside the building were statues of Andrew Jackson and Andrew Johnson, plus the tombs of James K. Polk and his wife.
