FURY REEF ECO TOUR & SUNSET CRUISE
Located between Ocean Key Resort and Pier House Resort, at the end of Duval Street, Key West, FL 33040
“Key West’s only window to the sea! Explore dramatic underwater vistas generally reserved for scuba divers from our glass bottom boat. A wide variety of fish and other sea creatures await you as you gaze into the underwater world of Key West. In addition, you will have the opportunity to see North America’s only living coral reef, one of the most biologically diverse marine eco-systems in the world. Majestic elkhorn and impressive brain coral, sturdy in appearance yet fragile and vulnerable, stand sentry for the more than 300 species of fish that complete the colorful and intriguing seascape. Along the trip, our experienced captain and crew will provide a unique and informative eco-tour and point out some of the most interesting marine life that inhabit the waters of this incredible island. Special glass “windows to the reef” provide continuous viewing for all passengers.” Fury Key West website
I ended the day with a Glass Bottom Eco/Sunset Boat Tour. To be honest I was more excited about seeing the sunset from the boat than I was the tour of the coral reef, not because I wasn’t interested in the reef, but because I knew that trying to get a good view through the glass bottom with the number of people on the boat would be difficult. In the end I had the trip pegged, though I did get some good looks at the reef after some of the people decided they had had enough and went back out to the deck. The reef was cool, but hard to photograph, and colors were difficult to distinguish. The sunset from the boat was everything that I hoped for, even with the clouds that blocked the sun in the last couple of minutes. I spent a lot of time watching people on the boat, being both amazed and stupefied at their behaviors. In the end, the boat trip accomplished one of my goals in coming to the Keys, to see a sunset, and so I am happy.
