SEDGWICK COUNTY ZOO

5555 W Zoo Blvd, Wichita, Kansas 67212

“The Sedgwick County Zoo is an AZA-accredited wildlife park and major attraction in Wichita, Kansas, United States.” -  Wikipedia

Upon entering the parking lot of the zoo, I got a little nervous as at least four school busses were unloading groups of elementary-age children.  I didn’t think battling little tykes and the 90-plus degree temperatures were going to make for enjoyable visit.  Once I got into the zoo and started exploring, I only ran into the field trip groups once or twice.

The zoo was larger than I imagined and had an excellent collection on animals.  Some highlights for me were the Tropics area with an aviary, the wolves in the North American area, and the hippopotami in the African area.  With the high temperatures I expected several of the animals to be sleeping or lethargic, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.  Two areas of the zoo (Asia and Australia) were closed for construction, if I return to the area I would return to see these two new areas.
