THE SAN ANTONIO ZOO

3903 N St. Mary’s St, San Antonio, TX 78212

“The San Antonio Zoo is an Association of Zoos and Aquariums-accredited zoo in Midtown San Antonio, Texas, United States. It is located in the city's Brackenridge Park.  San Antonio Zoo is a 50+ acre zoo home to over 750 species, some of which are endangered or extinct in the wild, and an annual attendance of more than 1 million.” - Wikipedia

Let me start by saying after visiting the San Antonio Zoo I was neither impressed nor unimpressed.  It is, in my opinion, your average zoo.  It had most of the animals one would expect to see in a zoo.  I enjoyed the hippos swimming in their habitat, the reptile house, the aquarium, and the Hixon Bird House.  The exhibit of bats flying around was fun, though too dark to photograph.  The reactions of people around me when one of the rhinos appeared to try mating with another were hilarious.  On the other hand, the Asian elephants and their enclosure was kind of sad.  Again, in my opinion, the zoo is a little dated.  Many of exhibits must be viewed through plate glass windows which I assume were wonderful about 15 years ago.  However, over time the glass has gotten cloudy and difficult to see clearly through.

I enjoyed my visit, though if I ever rank the zoos I’ve visited this one will never be higher than middle of the pack.
