MODERN ART MUSEUM OF FORT WORTH
3200 Darnell St, Fort Worth, TX 76107
“The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth (widely referred to as The Modern) is an art museum of post-World War II art in Fort Worth, Texas with a collection of international modern and contemporary art. Founded in 1892, The Modern is located in the city's cultural district in a building designed by architect Tadao Ando which opened to the public in 2002. The museum is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums and holds a permanent collection with more than 3,000 works of art.” – Wikipedia
On a cold and extremely windy Texas afternoon I decided to take refuge in a couple Fort Worth art museums. I started at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. For some reason only seven of the museum’s 14 galleries were open when I visited, which I’m assuming is the reason I was charged half of the posted admission fee.
As the museum’s name implies, this is modern art. Now, I will admit right here I am not a fan of all modern art. There were several pieces where I scratched my head and thought, “I’m sure someone understands what the artist was going for.” Don’t get me wrong, I appreciated the works, I just wouldn’t add them to my collection (assuming I had a collection). On the other hand, how could one not be impressed seeing works by artists such as Picasso, Pollock, Warhol, and others.
If I get back to Fort Worth, I will check out this museum again, hoping that all of the galleries are open.
