HISTORIC WESTWOOD
3425 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919
“Westwood is a historic home located at 3425 Kingston Pike at the edge of the Sequoyah Hills area of Knoxville, Tennessee. Also known as the Adelia Armstrong Lutz House, the house was built in 1890 by John Lutz and his wife, artist Adelia Armstrong Lutz, on land given to them by Adelia's father, Robert H. Armstrong.” - Wikipedia
I enjoy visiting turn-of-the-century houses/mansions. Westwood was the perfect way to start my visit to Knoxville. Just by chance, I received a private tour of the artist’s home. My guide did an excellent job of talking about the history of the house, and the restoration process. The highlight of the house tour was Lutz’ studio, along with some of her original works.
Hard to see in this picture, but the front drive "circle" is in the shape of a heart.
Clock made by a woman.
Loved the floor-to-ceiling windows...used when the house was built for ventilation.
Lutz' studio. In the photograph Lutz is the the standing person on the left.
One of Lutz' paintings.
Another of Lutz' paintings. She used her son and the neighbor's dog as models.
While several pieces of furniture were original, the lamps with glass lampshades belong to a couple in Knoxville who collect them. They display them all around the house.
The art studio.
The fireplace in the studio. The tiles (most in green) were portraits of famous authors/artists. The one that has been restored is Edgar Allen Poe. They have identified who the other are.
The dining room. This table used to be in the art studio.
Appliances were not original, but were period pieces.
Lutz had painted most of the trim around the house. Most has not been restored. In the hallway was a small piece that hasn't been touched.
Stained glass from Europe. These windows were on the stairway landing.
Loved this seating area on the front porch.
