EROTIC HERITAGE MUSEUM

3275 S Sammy Davis Jr Dr, Las Vegas, NV 89109

“The Erotic Heritage Museum is a 24,000-square-foot space with 17,000 square feet dedicated to the history of erotica, located in Las Vegas. The grand patron of the museum is Harry Mohney, founder of Déjà Vu.” -  Wikipedia

Let’s get this out of the way, the only reason I visited this museum was because the Jewel Box Theater inside the museum was home to the musical “Naked Boys Singing,” which I wanted to see.  I needed to pick my ticket for the musical up at the box office before the show and got there a little early, so I decided to take a gander at the museum.

While I wouldn’t call this a high-class museum, I did find many of the exhibits interesting.  There was a nice collection of art from many different time periods and cultures.  An exhibit about brothels in Nevada also had a tribute to the Chicken Ranch, the famous Texas brothel that inspired the musical “Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.”  One exhibit I found both interesting and disappointing concerned female teachers who had sexual affairs with male students.  I skipped many exhibits as my time in the museum was limited because I didn’t want to miss the beginning of my show.

A quick review of “Naked Boys Singing” – the theater was small, the music was loud (sometimes drowning out the vocals), and the sound system was amateurish.  But, the four actors were good singers, not bad to look at, and put on an enjoyable show.  Would I go back?  Probably not in Vegas but would like to see it in NYC.

The museum was better than I thought, and now that I’ve had time to think about it, if I get back to Vegas and have a free hour or two, I might return to take a more leisurely gander at the exhibits.
