DAKOTA ZOO
602 Riverside Park Rd, Bismarck, ND 58504
“The Dakota Zoo is a zoo in Bismarck, North Dakota located on the banks of the Missouri River. It is the third zoo built in North Dakota. The Dakota Zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.” Wikipedia
Have you noticed that I love zoos? The Dakota Zoo has a great collection of animals, many of which are native to North Dakota and the upper midwest. I was impressed by the collection of predatory birds, the grey wolves, the grizzly bears, and the big horn sheep.
The train ride was a nice way to get oriented to the zoo’s layout.
On a side note: I have a membership to Des Moines’ Blank Park Zoo. I’ve discovered that my membership affords me entrance into other zoos accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. This is one membership I’m glad I purchased.
Redtail Hawk
Turkey Vulture
Some people hate snakes, some rodents, and others bugs. Me, I hate racoons. I don't care how cute some people think they are, I can't stand the sight of them. Long story. Anyway, if I never see one in a zoo (or in life outside a zoo) again it will be too soon.
Coyote
This bobcat relaxing in a hammock on a hot afternoon was just too cute.
Pallas Cat. This guy kept creeping me out by following me with those eyes whereever I went.
River Otter
Get a room.

Golden Eagle. This particular eagle came to the zoo in 2011 after being shot. 18 shotgun pellets were found in her body. Due to her injuries she cannot be released back into the wild.
