NATIONAL CZECH & SLOVAK MUSEUM & LIBRARY

1400 Inspiration Pl SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404

“The National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library is a museum and library of Czech and Slovak history and culture located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in the United States. Established in 1974, the museum and library moved to its present site in 1983. The museum and library was severely affected by the Iowa flood of 2008.” Wikipedia

The main exhibit of the museum tells about the evolution of the Czech and Slovak Republics, and the struggles the people have experienced in getting to where they are today. It also tells of the emigration of Czech and Slovak people to this country. There were some very interesting items.

There were two temporary exhibits, “Formed in Fire: The Joyce Anderson Glass Collection” and “The Bias Inside Us.” “Formed in Fire” had a collection of glass and porcelain items that were stunningly beautiful. “The Bias Inside Us” was a thought provoking display explaining how both implicit and explicit bias forms our opinions.

After the museum I strolled in the neighboring Czech Village.
