CAJUN FOOD TOURS LAFAYETTE

455 Feu Follet Rd #81082, Lafayette, LA 70508

“Cajun Food tours are history tours and culinary tours all rolled into one.  Experience the Acadiana region of South Louisiana in a whole new way.  Considered the best way to spend your time when visiting Lafayette, LA, our tours take you into the heart of Cajun Country, off the eaten path, so you can peel back the layers and discover the cuisine and culture of this distinguished area for yourself.” – Cajun Food Tours website

I found this tour online and thought it sounded like something fun to do.  From the second Marie welcomed me onto the tour bus until the end of the three-hour excursion I had the best time.

Marie, who introduced herself as the owner of the company, served as bus driver, tour guide, and food connoisseur.  She used her former-teacher skills coupled with southern charm to tell us about the history of the area, its people, and the local food.  I learned so much.

But, of course, the highlight of the tour was the food.  We stopped at a donut shop, two restaurants, a specialty meat market, and a bakery.  Each of the five stops had a “signature dish,” a Boudin Kolache, Gumbo, Cajun Boudin, Grilled Oysters, ending with King Cake.  We also had donuts, potato salad, sausage, cracklins, and alligator bites.  Everything was delicious.  My favorite was the Boudin Kolache.  I also learned that dipping potato salad into gumbo enhances the flavor of the potato salad.

I would highly recommend taking the Cajun Food Tour if you ever get to Lafayette.  If I get back, I will definitely take the tour again.
