ARKANSAS STATE CAPITOL
500 Woodlane St, Little Rock, AR 72201
“The Arkansas State Capitol, often called the Capitol Building, is the home of the Arkansas General Assembly, and the seat of the Arkansas state government that sits atop Capitol Hill at the eastern end of the Capitol Mall in Little Rock, Arkansas.” - Wikipedia
My impression of my quick tour of the Arkansas State Capitol is that it is a stately building, with the usual magnificent stonework found in many capitols. A center rotunda, under a tall dome with classic grand marble stairways leading to the legislative chambers on opposite sides are highlights of the building. The Governor’s Office, along with a beautifully adorned reception room can be found on the on the second floor. Windows in the doors gave me a glimpse inside each of the legislative chambers. I was surprised by what felt to me as a lack of adornment in the rotunda area, but overall, the building felt bright, unlike the dark and dreary ambiance in some capitols.
The bottom floor - I was most impressed with the brick arches that support the building.
The chandelier that usually graces the upper part of the rotunda had been lowered to the first floor to be cleaned.
